GOVERNING BODY: MAYOR'S MESSAGE

MAYORAL APPOINTMENT – On Wednesday, March 30, a Special Council Meeting was convened so that a Mayor could be selected to fill the unexpired term of Nancy Merse who passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 10. By New Jersey State Statute, the Edgewater Democratic Committee presented three names to the Governing Body for consideration to fill the unexpired term of Mayor. In a letter read at the meeting by Council President Luis Vidal, the committee presented the names of Regina Oates, Councilwoman Maureen Holtje, and Councilman James Delaney. The Council selected Councilman James Delaney who resigned his seat, upon accepting the consensus of the Governing Body, as a councilman in order to be sworn in as Mayor by Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell; the Mayor’s wife Bridgett held the bible as his two children Dennis and Brenna looked on. Mayor Delaney will seek election to the position of Mayor in the November 2011 general election.

COUNCIL APPOINTMENT – At the regularly scheduled council meeting on Monday, April 18, the Governing Body selected Michael Henwood to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman James Delaney who resigned his council seat on March 30 to be sworn in to the unexpired term of Mayor. The procedure was the same as when Mayor Delaney was selected to become Mayor in that the Edgewater Democratic Committee presented three names to be considered to fill the unexpired council term, the council unanimously selected Michael Henwood who will seek a full council term in the November 2011 general election.
