The Edgewater Bureau of Fire Prevention is staffed by a full time Fire Official and Fire Secretary and 3 part-time Fire Inspectors. The Borough's full-time Housing Inspector is assigned to the Bureau part-time to enforce the fire code in all multiple dwellings. Employees are responsible for the enforcement of all State and Local fire codes within the Borough of Edgewater.
The fire inspector's regular duties consist of enforcement of the State of New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, which includes regular fire inspections, investigation of complaints, fire investigations, smoke detector/carbon monoxide compliance and public education. All fire inspectors are members of the Edgewater Fire Department and respond to all fire alarms during working hours.
The Department of Community Affairs Division of Fire Safety has certified all inspectors in the bureau. All personnel attend numerous continuing education seminars and training classes for fire inspector in addition to their required fire department training. All inspectors are certified in Arson/Fire Investigations and attend re-training on a regular basis.
The professional secretarial staff of the bureau will assist the public with all permit applications, scheduling of appointments for inspections, Lock Box applications, records and answer any questions.
