EMERGENCY SERVICES: EDGEWATER POLICE DEPARTMENT - OFFICE OF THE CHIEF |
| |
Letter from the Chief
January 2011
Dear Edgewater Residents,
Welcome to the Edgewater Police Department website. As always, one of the Edgewater Police Department’s primary safety concerns is motor vehicle and pedestrian safety. It’s a good idea to be extra cautious in icy conditions, and courteous to pedestrians and other drivers. Keep in mind the new state law requiring motorists to yield to any pedestrian entering or in a cross walk, and as always, please look out for children at school crosswalks and near parks and playgrounds. Also, the Edgewater Police Department is very proactive in focusing on the many quality of life concerns that may affect our community. I encourage all of our citizens to contact me anytime at (201) 943-2200 ext. 2115. Thank you for visiting our website.
Sincerely,
Chief Joe Klimaszewski
Edgewater Police Department

Emergency Management Resources
In case of a disaster, the Chief of Police is the official Emergency Management Coordinator for the Borough. During an emergency, the Chief is available to provide guidelines and coordinate with the County, State, Federal or neighboring states to provide leadership in an emergency.
Among other things, he maintains the comprehensive Borough Emergency Management Plan. This plan is always current on changes in policies, personnel, equipment, contact lists and procedures that serve during emergency situations.
Two other important resources for Edgewater during an emergency are the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management and the Bergen/Hudson County Red Cross.
The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management website has information about weather emergencies, family preparedness, animal emergencies, and helpful links to county and state emergency management resources.
At the Red Cross website, families can work on preparedness by signing up for a First Aid-CPR class, ordering helpful brochures, obtaining a Disaster Supplies Kit or developing a Disaster Plan. Volunteer and training opportunities, as well as youth services and blood donations are also handled at the Red Cross.
