Surveillance of the West Nile Virus is through the State testing of mosquitoes and recently deceased crows, hawks and falcons. It is requested that residents advise the Health Department of any dead birds.
The Bergen County Mosquito Commission is concentrating on preventing mosquito breeding. Residents are asked to assist by checking their own properties for any items that hold water such as buckets, tires, toys, wheelbarrows, trash cans, etc., and either discard them or turn them over so they cannot accumulate standing water.
