[ARCHIVED] Storm Damage Update...

Edgewater and the State of New Jersey suffered major damage from the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida.  Edgewater recorded more rain than in Tropical Storm Floyd in 1999.  Compared to other Bergen County towns, Edgewater survived better than the others.  We had our intersections flood out but thankfully low tide was at 11pm.  Several homes received significant flooding damage including the Aventine mid-rise that needed to be evacuated as a result of flooding. Over 60 vehicles that were stranded on River Road due to flooding and were towed to the Community Center.  Emergency Management was activated and several residents spent the night at our community center.
Due to the storm, the clean-up, and out of respect for those who suffered damage, we have cancelled our fireworks and concert for tonight, no new date has been rescheduled.
We thank our first responders, Police, Fire, First Aid, and Public Works who worked throughout the storm assisting residents who were getting flooded, or stranded in their car, as well as answering a whole host of other calls.
The most significant public damage received was the washing out of a Bergen County Culvert in front of the George Washington School necessitating River Road being reduced to one lane northbound so that Bergen County can make repairs within the next few days.  We ask residents to use NJ Route 5 instead of River Road southbound from Fort Lee.
