Chapter 380 of the Borough Code requires all property owners to remove snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of the snow stopping, it is your responsibility as a property owner or manager to ensure snow and ice removal in a timely manner or you will be issued a summons. Do not plow or shovel snow into the street, use the area between the curb and sidewalk and try not to clear your driveway apron until after the plows have cleared snow, place snow on the lower portion of your apron so the plow does not push snow back into your driveway. If you live near a fire hydrant, please clear the snow from around the hydrant. After snow plowing is finished on Monday, crews will begin snow removal requiring the removal of vehicles from streets and roads, monitor emergency no parking signs and reverse messaging or cars not moved will be towed. The storm will affect New Jersey Transit Bus schedules, be sure to monitor apps and social media, service is not guaranteed so plan accordingly. Do not drive or walk during the storm for your safety and remember to clear snow from your walks and pick up the dog poop, thank you.

Borough of Edgewater Snow Removal Regulations
SNOW REMOVAL REGULATIONS - Regulations are intended to make it easier for pedestrians to access sidewalks and bus shelters as well as restrict the placing of snow in any roadway or sidewalk right of way. Ordinance 1462-2011 amending sections of chapter 380 – All sidewalks, walkways, handicapped ramps, staircases, shall be cleared to a width of 42” or the maximum width of the sidewalk, walkway, handicapped ramp or staircase. No person, partnership, corporation, or other entity shall cause to permit any snow or ice accumulated within the boundaries of the property be deposited onto, upon, or in a manner as to limit access to any street, sidewalk, crosswalk, or other public property. (DO NOT THROW SNOW IN THE STREET) Fines can be assessed starting at $150.00. Remember that this ordinance also requires that snow and ice be removed within 24 hours of when the storm stops. Also, the fire department reminds residents who live near a fire hydrant to please shovel around the hydrant and not cover the hydrant with snow. It is recommended that residents shovel driveway aprons after the plows have cleared the street since the plow will un-avoidably plow snow into the aprons. It is recommended that you remove as many vehicles from the street as possible by not only parking in your driveway but on any lawn area as well allowing the plows to clear more snow from the roadway. Do not place chairs or trash barrels in the street to reserve parking spaces.
